FTXT has a global multicultural team with R&D centers in Shanghai, Baoding, Germany and Canada.  This position is in Vancouver BC at FTXT’s fuel cell stack center of excellence.  FTXT offers a highly competitive salary and benefits package with a culture of innovation.  FTXT has an immediate and exciting opportunity for a full-time Materials & Process Development Engineer.  The successful candidate will report to the Plate and Seal Process Development Lead and perform a variety of key roles within a 25-person team in 2022 growing to 50-100 people in the next 5 years.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participate in materials and process development of new/innovative manufacturing processes from proof of concept through production with good quality, high yield and low cost.

Perform data analysis / interpretation and presentation of experimental data.

Conduct failure analysis on fuel-cell stack materials.

Assist in developing fuel cell stack failure-mode maps.

Assist in commissioning new production lines for fuel cell plates and seals. 

Work collaboratively with cross functional teams and external suppliers.

Perform training to manufacturing technicians.

Develop new and improve existing measurement processes.

Perform Gage R&R on measurement processes to ensure adequate quality control

Establish process controls for SPC and develop process related Control Plan.

Develop and manage PFMEA risk assessments to prioritize process improvement.

Build process documentation to accurately define the process to cross-functional teams (equipment, quality, production, etc.).

Evaluate suppliers conformity to manufacturing processes requirements

Create laboratory test reports and qualification reports to support the improvement of manufacturing processes


QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND COMPETENCIES:

Materials, Mechanical, or other Engineering degree in relevant fields 

At least 1 year of relevant experience in materials development, process development, manufacturing engineering, or equivalent. 

Familiar with fuel cell stack components (especially bi-polar plates and seals). 

Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and ability to apply them towards materials optimization/ selection, and manufacturing process development

Proven problem solver - demonstrated experience of data driven root cause analysis, statistical software (Minitab) and engineering software tool development a plus

Demonstrated capabilities in manufacturing process development for new and unique products

Experience in high volume manufacturing involving one or more of these areas is highly desired:

Liquid injection moulding processes

Fuel cell bi-polar plate processes

Fuel cell sealing processes

Proactive, detail oriented strategic thinker with exceptional analytical abilities and sound judgment.

Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; demonstrated ability to prioritize conflicting requirements in a timely manner.

Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate in a team environment and able to work independently.

Ability to work under pressure to meet tight timelines and to respond to pressing issues.
