Stack & System Product Development Engineer

This position is located in Vancouver, BC at FTXT’s fuel cell stack center of excellence. FTXT offers a highly competitive salary and benefits package with a culture of innovation. FTXT has an immediate and exciting opportunity for a full-time Senior Unit Cell Engineer. The successful candidate will report to the Senior System Engineering Lead and perform a variety of key roles within a 25-person team in 2022 growing to 50-100 people in the next 5 years.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Drive the fuel cell system and stack development with new/innovative design and development processes from proof of concept through production with good quality, high yield, and low cost.
•Develop new and innovative stack & system design concepts.
•Develop component requirements, DFMEA, and PFMEA documents for the fuel cell stack and system, as well as subcomponents based on customer requirements
•Perform trade-off studies, performance modelling, operating conditions development for different stack and system concept designs, and create reports and presentations.
•Support the stack and system design team in product stage reviews
•Develop testing strategies for unit cell, stack and system component design verification and material characterization.
•Prepare project timelines and develop milestones to meet project targets.
•Develop and apply stack and system models to develop e.g. operating conditions or performance predictions.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND COMPETENCIES:
•Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with least 5 years of fuel cell experience
•Understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and heat transfer in fuel cell stacks
•Experience in fuel cell stack and system development
•Experience with fuel cell stack and system modelling and fuel cell testing is a plus
•Proven problem solver - demonstrated experience of data driven root cause analysis, statistical software (JMP) a plus
•Proactive, detail oriented strategic thinker with analytical abilities and sound judgment.
•Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; demonstrated ability to prioritize conflicting requirements in a timely manner.
•Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate in a team environment and able to work independently.
•Ability to work under pressure to meet tight timelines and to respond to pressing issues.
